Every time I shifted myself or my camera more than six inches in any direction, this nervous subject would take off, flit around for 30 to 45 seconds and land on the same sprig. So, when he flew, I would do a major shift in my position, then freeze and wait for it to land again.
It took me six attempts before I finally got this shot. And the seventh time it flew, it didn't return!
That's why I kept working at getting the shot! It was a captivating little critter!
I took my grandaughter back there today. I was wearing a red shirt. And at least 3 times a hummingbird flew up from behind, hovered at my shoulder for 10-20 seconds, then darted off when it decided I wasn't a giant flower.

Life is a jam session.
It was work, but worth the effort.
