My Newest Addiction...Friends introduced my daughter and I to it on March 7. I have since purchased a copy and we have my other daughter and son-in-law, and three of our friends addicted to it as well.
At this point Settlers of Catan is being played at our place 2 -3 times a week, and everyone wants to play more!
Settlers is a board game that came out of Germany in 1995. It has since been translated into 7 or more languages and won a number of awards. The game design is superb! Everyone is actively engaged no matter who's turn it is because anyone's dice roll could benefit you. The 1st person to gain 10 victory points wins and everyone is playing until a winner is declared! (Unlike Risk or Monopoly where people are knocked out of the game and have to sit around, bored, watching others play.)
Settlers of Catan base set is for 3 - 4 players. You can buy an expansion pack that lets you play up to 6 players. The game is listed for players 10+ and makes for a great family game. But all of the folks I've played with have been ages 21-35 and they love it!
